Kingdom Prep Lutheran High School began because of an incredible opportunity gap for young black men in the city of Milwaukee. Between poverty rates, high levels of fatherlessness, and a scarcity of seats at high-performing high schools in the area, thousands of young men were not equipped to succeed in life.
The founders of Kingdom Prep proposed a solution to these alarming educational disparities: What if they offered the proper level of intentional support, resources, and Biblical training to empower young men to break the cycle and blaze a new trail for future generations?
Starting from scratch
In 2017, a group of young men led the charge for transformation in our city. Kingdom Prep’s founding eighth graders built the school from the ground up. They chose the school colors (light and dark blue), decided on the mascot (the KP Wolfpack), and created an education system that addressed growing challenges and opportunities for young men to discover their true purpose in life.
Savage was honored to help turn this dream into a reality. Sticking to the founding students’ choice of colors and mascot, we worked together to create several designs and logo marks for KP apparel, sports teams, web design, and signage.
But, branding is a lot more than just a logo. Branding is creating an emotional connection—it’s about telling the real KP story.
Uncovering the Kingdom Prep story
After interviewing faculty, touring the school hallways, and interacting with the students, we found one core value to be abundantly clear: brotherhood. The students hold special bonds, consistently lifting each other up and encouraging one another to be better men. That’s what carried their story.
The Savage team built Kingdom Prep’s brand architecture, brand identity, and website that centered around their unique brotherhood relationships built on faith, trust, and vulnerability. We even sent two of our very own Savages to KP’s annual camping trip to film a documentary-style video on the initiation journey of a KP Wolf.
The leaders of KP don’t just teach academics—they also teach life. Students are given the opportunity to engage in community service, complete internships, learn to deliver a strong handshake, and more. The Kingdom Prep brand conveys that, when you establish a culture where everyone feels seen and heard, young men build something bigger than themselves—they build an unbreakable, lifelong bond of brotherhood.
Life is better in a pack
In the fall of 2023, Kingdom Prep hosted their second annual gala with the goal of raising money to better their school’s resources. Supporters in the community were able to see the power of brotherhood through the overarching theme of the event: Built on Brotherhood.
Between photoshoots with the students and branded illustrations, the Savage team created the gala invitations, signage, and programs full of the students’ personalities and stories.
This event branding resonated with the students, the faculty, and the members of the community, inspiring over $250,000 of donations at this year’s gala alone. Savage was proud to not only brand the event, but also be a sponsor and donor for a school that continues to touch our hearts every single day.
Today, the young men of KP wear their colors proudly, and their new website allows the world to get a peek into what it means to be a KP Wolf.
